Movie Theatre

The Retro Dome will present a diverse collection of favorite flicks from 1939 through 1999. At The Retro Dome, everything old is new again, including the works of such renowned film makers as Alfred Hitchcock, John Hughes, Cecile B. deMille, Steven Spielberg and more.

The Retro Dome is proud to be using the most modern developments in digital technology to present our retro film series. If you are are seeking the enjoyment of some of your favorite movies shown crisp and clear on the big screen, accompanied by fellow retro movie enthusiasts in a fun, friendly environment, you've come to the right place. We are not currently offering a 70mm or 35mm film projection experience but we work with the movie studios to find the best quality digital sources to present the films on our NEC Digital Projector.

The movies are shown as they were intended to be seen.  Films made before 1954 are shown in the center of our screen as widescreen, Panorama vision, Vista vision and the like had not yet been invented.  More recent movies are shown in the aspect ratio recommended by their producing studio to best give the widescreen look.

As with most movie-plexes, there can be a small amount of sound bleed-through from theatre to theatre or a touch of extraneous sound from the streets outside our building.  Usually this is negligible: a slight murmer of music, the faint bass rumble of passing armies, or the siren of an emergency vehicle rushing to someone's assistance.  We have done our very best to further sound-proof the theatres to an even greater extent than the initial sound proofing done when the dome was converted into a two-screen venue.

To add to the comfort of the theatre we have taken care to calibrate our heating and cooling systems to best accommodate the majority of our guests. Of course, everyone has a different view of what's comfortable. We suggest you bring an outer layer if you're concerned about the chill from the air conditioner or so you can remove your sweater if the heater is too warm. In winter months, when the heater is used, you'll find it is much warmer in the upper rows of the room, since the dome shape of the venue helps the heat rise to its highest point.
